The Paper Crowns Band

Taking their power duo format to a whole new level, Spiro and Nicole Nicolopoulos of The Paper Crowns formed a full electric band. Joining forces with some of Asheville’s top musicians including members of Phuncle Sam, they have cultivated a strong mix of songs, musicianship and no holds barred jamming that makes for dynamic and powerful live concert performances. Their sound is a potluck of influences including electric blues, psychedelic and Southern rock, American folk and jazz, Gospel and funk. The Paper Crowns Band mission is to deliver exceptionally crafted songs with dynamic improvisation and soulfully delivered vocals. The Paper Crowns Band includes Spiro and Nicole Nicolopoulos, David Mulder, J.D. Smith, Steve Kemble and Gus Vigo.

Spiro and Nicole Nicolopoulos – Vocals/Guitars

Spiro and Nicole are Asheville’s multi-instrument, genre crossing power duo – The Paper Crowns. They’ve criss crossed the country playing live music and have found a home in Asheville for their full on electric band. Between the two of them they have played at events such as Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Summer Meltdown, Baja Bash, The House of Blues, Soulshine, the 2016 Christmas Jam By Day and more. Their music has found placement in major network TV campaigns including the Olympic Games and for Visa.

David Mulder – Keys

David’s unique music style has been influenced by The Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Miles Davis. He has played with a wide variety of performers including the experimental music of Cerberus Shoal from Portland, Maine and the high-energy jam band Blend from New York.

J.D. Smith – Bass

The New England born bass player graduated from Johnson State College (VT) with a B.A. in Jazz Performance. Based in Asheville (NC) he has become a fixture in the musicscene being the anchor for many successful Asheville projects including Phuncle Sam, Free Dead Friday and many more. His dynamic bass playing sets him apart as an artist in his genre.

Steve Kemble – Drums

Steve was born a percussionist, incessantly banging on his mother’s gumbo pots as soon as he could crawl. Steve moved to Asheville and is currently playing with Phuncle Sam, Chikomo Marimba, Curious George, Mande Foly, and inimitable Blue Paradox. When not playing music and building instruments, Steve likes to play in the mud and make homes and other stuff out of said mud. (See: MudStrawLove.com)
