The Asheville Southern Syncopators

Jake Hollifield and Mike Gray—bandmates in The Screaming J’s and longtime fixtures of Asheville’s music scene—bring together two powerhouse forces of rhythm and grit. With Mike’s inventive, groove-rich drumming and Jake’s fiery, boogie-drenched piano, their sound is raw, magnetic, and unapologetically alive.

This project channels decades of stagecraft into a new expression that’s equal parts rootsy and rebellious—honoring tradition while breaking the mold. Drawing from honky-tonk,  blues, and back-porch rock ’n’ roll, every performance is a joyful detour into the unexpected.
